In 2016, Singapore’s population had one of the highest access rates to banks, smartphones, and wireless broadband services in Southeast Asia. But the use of mobile devices for payments was relatively small.

Liquid Pay was one of the few mobile payment options that helped transform the way purchases can be made in Singapore.

I was part of the project to create the user experience in developing the first mobile payment app using QR-code in Singapore.

Hassle-free Onboarding for Users and for Merchants

Liquid Pay entered the payments landscape in Singapore in 2016 by getting not just merchants but even hawkers to start accepting its solution as a payment option.
The principle was simple; the user would scan the QR code sticker near the cashier provided by Liquid Pay and key in the amount to be paid. The merchant will receive a notification via the Merchant App or SMS once payment is received.
Hence, creating a simple and seamless payment journey for users and merchants/hawkers was the focus to encourage a positive adoption rate.

My Role

I led the design of Liquid Pay between November 2015 and December 2016 and collaborated with the Information Architect on the onboarding process, payment, wallet, and rewards system features.
I worked through the project until it was launched on iOS and Play Store.
